Happy Halloween: Eight Fantastically Creepy Music Videos
Oct 26th 2012, 21:27

(VEVO)"Thriller" may remain the go-to music video on All Hallows' Eve, but there have been plenty of much freakier videos hit the airwaves since Michael Jackson first got his zombie dance on. These wonderfully creepy clips feature terrors of all shapes and sizes, from blood-sucking monsters to perverse dystopian suburbias.

Get your freak-y on.

"Disturbia," Rihanna

Rihanna tapped into the dark lyrical content of her dance hit "Disturbia" for the Anthony Mandler-directed music video, which opens with shots of her holding court in a weirdly sexy torture chamber with hungry-looking dancers leering on all fours. In other scenes, a corseted Rihanna appears chained to a bed and confined in a crawl space.

"Fighter," Christina Aguilera
Christina's Floria Sigismoni-directed video for "Fighter" had a little bit of everything: Gothic ballerinas devouring blackened bananas (not the least bit phallic!), human pin cushions, and a metamorphosis into a creepy moth lady.

"Breathe," The Prodigy
While not the most controversial Prodigy video ever created, the Walter Stern-directed video for "Breathe" might be the most unsettling. Stern filmed the band members in a set of dilapidated rooms using two camera vehicles tracking at different speeds, creating an invasive, shifting texture.

"Come to Daddy," Aphex Twin
Director Chris Cunningham revisited the same creepy London neighborhood where Stanley Kubrick shot dismal scenes for A Clockword Orange to create the dismal world of "Come to Daddy," in which a destructive gang of children — all sporting Aphex Twin's Richard D. James' grinning face — wreak havoc.

"Black Hole Sun," Soundgarden
Howard Greenhalgh's clip for Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" propelled the band into the mainstream... and freaked out more than a few people along the way, offering a terrifying caricature of suburbia on the eve of a technicolor apocalypse.

"Cruel," St. Vincent
Directing duo Terri Timely had a lot of fun with their video offering for St. Vincent's "Cruel," which the wide-eyed performer is kidnapped, held captive, and eventually buried alive by a motherless family. It's bizarrely entertaining to watch Annie Clark get waterboarded by a lithe little blonde girl.

"Abducted," Cults
There's something deceptively sugary about Cults lead singer Madeline Follin's voice, a childlike sweetness that's just a touch off. The music video for Cults' catchiest single to date, "Abducted," embraces that darkness fully with its depiction of a bizarrely beautiful kidnapping in which it's not completely clear who has the upper hand.

"The Beautiful People," Marilyn Manson
With its quick cuts of earthworms and man-boobs, this Floria Sigismondi-directed clip went for maximum grossness when it debuted in 1996. With its glimpses at torturous dental devices and hints at fascist undertones, the music video was practically a full-blown horror film packed into just under four minutes, minus the overbaked plot.
