Add Justin Bieber impersonator to the long list of James Franco endeavors. Apparently Franco found time between teaching a college course, selling invisible art, and shooting one of his seven films set for 2013 to cut an entire lip dub version of Bieber's "Boyfriend" single.
The homemade music video features Franco donning all the cliche Bieber trademarks — the floppy bowl cut circa 2010, the floating ball cap, the casual hoodie — as he parades around a poorly lit hotel room while his rumored girlfriend Ashley Benson dry humps the floor. The video isn't exactly clever or funny, and it gets to be redundant, but the intriguing question is whether or not Franco and Benson's "Boyfriend" is tribute or mockery.
Both Franco and Benson spent the summer making Spring Breakers alongside Bieber's ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, and from the looks of the on-set photos, the costars got pretty close during filming. And then there's this post from Franco's blog in which he lays on the sarcasm while addressing the early rumors he and Benson were more than friends: "As for Gomez and Benson, those are Bieber's girls, and I wouldn't dare tangle with the Biebs. I heard he wants to kick my ass. Yikes!"
Or perhaps we're making too much of this. The bottom line is you get to see James Franco as Justin Bieber, so there's something for the whole 13-40 female demographic. Enjoy the video and let us know your take in the comments section below.
And Bieber's original version for good measure:
